Some whacky curling
I have returned to the world of curling here in Vancouver and it was cool to be able to curl with the group of folks that I curled with when I joined a club in Vancouver. The club itself is on it's last legs and we will be moving to the Olympic facilities for the 2011/2012 season. While it will be sad to leave the old club, there are some things that won't be missed. For one, is the ice. Officially 6' short of regulation length, it's no wonder I'm a heavy draw. In addition to odd measurements, the ice is also sitting on a sand base.
Not being an ice maker, I'm not sure what this means, but I do know that we have water which runs under the ice surface and you can tell each time it rains ~ the ice has different ridges. It got to the point at the end of this season where you were as likely to draw to the button as you were to call correctly heads or tails.
Because you will NEVER see ice like this anywhere, I took video of our last game and the shot which were made. Yes that is the skip standing on the left edge of the 12' and throwing an 'in turn'. Here's a few videos of our 'special' ice. Just watch where it ends up...
