Stanley Market

No trip to Hong Kong is complete without having a go at the Markets. First on the list of markets to tackle was the Stanley Market. A ways out of Hong Kong ~ all the way at the end of the Blue line and then some, we decided to take the bus to take in the view. Along the way we passed a number of very lovely homes which undoubtedly cost more than I would ever make in a lifetime.

When we arrived at the market, Beth was surprised to find that it was not very crowded. I was grateful for that especially given less than a week previous, there had been the annual Dragon Boat Festival and the place was packed.

The area was very clean and pleasant to look at which was not what I thought markets in Hong Kong would be like.

As you would expect a market to be, it was filled with stalls of merchants wanting you to purchase their goods. The challenge here is finding a good price. There wasn't much 'heckling' going on as I am terrible at this but I did learn that if you attempt to walk away, the price suddenly gets better ~ imagine that! So purchases for the day included jewellery, some silk placemats and Christmas ornaments.

Situated on the water, Beth and I took in a great lunch. (Building on the left ~ called Bayside Beth when you take Marc for lunch!) It served all different types of cuisines ~ Thai, Indonesian, Italian ~ choice was difficult and everything we did order was fabulous. Lunch however does come at a price and it was just over $30 a piece for lunch. One thing I have learned ~ when dealing in foreign currency you sometimes overlook how much you are spending cause unless you continually do the mental gymnastics you can buy to your hearts content. That said, it was well worth the 30 bucks!
